Canada’s Haiti open work permit renewals policy took effect on October 28, 2026. It allows certain temporary residents in Canada to renew an open work permit issued under earlier Haiti measures.

Who can apply for a renewal
The measure covers eligible Haitian nationals and eligible foreign national family members of Canadian citizens or permanent residents covered by earlier measures for people who fled violence in Haiti.
At the time of application, applicants must hold a valid work permit issued through an exemption under one of the six earlier Haiti policies listed by IRCC. They must also have valid temporary resident status both when they apply and when IRCC makes its final decision.
The renewal application must be submitted from inside Canada under subsection 201(1). Applicants who already received an exemption under this policy cannot use it again.
Fees and the exemption
Standard fees apply. Officers may exempt eligible applicants from paragraph 200(1)(c) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations. Other applicable eligibility and admissibility requirements continue to apply.
When the renewal policy ends
The policy is scheduled to expire on December 30, 2027, and may be revoked earlier. IRCC processes applications received from October 28, 2026, up to the expiry or earlier revocation, under this policy.
