How we prepare our coverage

Maplevisa reviews primary and authoritative sources, including materials published by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, federal and provincial governments, courts, tribunals and other relevant public authorities.

We examine the source material in context, identify the applicable immigration rules, policies, program requirements or legal principles, and prepare coverage intended to explain what changed, what the source says and why the development may matter.

Our articles are not intended to reproduce government notices or court decisions verbatim. We summarize and organize the underlying information for readers while linking to authoritative sources where appropriate.

Primary sources come first

Whenever reasonably available, Maplevisa relies on the original source of an immigration development rather than secondary reporting.

Accuracy before publication

Before publication, material facts are checked against the underlying source. Names, dates, program terminology, eligibility requirements, invitation numbers, scores, legal citations and other material details are reviewed for consistency with the authoritative record.

Where a source is unclear, incomplete or subject to interpretation, we aim to make that limitation clear rather than present an uncertain point as established fact.

News with relevant context

A policy update or program announcement can be difficult to understand in isolation. Where useful, Maplevisa provides relevant background, compares a development with existing rules or previous developments, and explains its practical significance.

Analysis is based on the source material, the applicable immigration framework and established legal or program context. Commentary and interpretation are presented as such and are not attributed to an official source unless that source actually supports the statement.

Federal Court decisions

Maplevisa's Federal Court coverage focuses on immigration, refugee, citizenship and related administrative-law decisions that may provide useful guidance or illustrate how Canadian immigration law is being applied.

Case summaries identify the relevant decision, the issue before the Court, the material reasoning and the outcome. Where we discuss broader implications, we distinguish those observations from the Court's actual findings.

Keeping information current

Canadian immigration programs, policies and operational instructions change frequently. Where a material development affects published coverage, Maplevisa may update the article, publish a subsequent report or clarify the earlier information.

Material corrections are made when an error is identified. Updated publication information may be displayed where an article has been substantively revised.
