Why does the tie-breaking date matter in an Express Entry draw?

The tie-breaking rule applies to candidates who had the minimum CRS score of 519. If more candidates had that score than IRCC could invite in the round, the date and time their Express Entry profiles were submitted is used to determine who receives an invitation. For this round, the tie-breaking timestamp was September 21, 2026 at 19:00:47 UTC.

Who can qualify through the Canadian Experience Class?

To qualify through the Canadian Experience Class, you must meet the CEC requirements, including at least one year of eligible skilled work experience in Canada within the three years before you apply.

The work must meet the applicable NOC requirements and have been gained while authorized to work in Canada. You must also meet the required language level for your NOC TEER category and the other CEC requirements.

Meeting the Canadian Experience Class program requirements does not guarantee an ITA; eligible candidates are ranked in the Express Entry pool using the CRS.

Express Entry Draw 449 Analysis

Recent CEC rounds have not followed a single one-direction CRS pattern across the available comparison period. The cut-off has moved between rounds, so the current result is more useful when read alongside several recent same-category draws.

For Draw 449, the CRS cut-off was 0.4 points below the average of the previous 5 comparable rounds (CRS 519.4). The invitation total was 500 above the recent same-category average of 2,000, while the round came 16 days after the previous draw in the same category. Taken together, the CRS trend, invitation volume and draw spacing give a clearer picture of recent same-category activity than the cut-off alone.

Monthly Invitations to Apply (ITAs)

For candidates, CRS 519 is the threshold for this specific Canadian Experience Class round, not a guaranteed threshold for a future draw. Candidates below the cut-off can compare their CRS with the result and review factors that may affect their score, including language results, eligible work experience and education-related points. Future cut-offs can change with the eligible pool, draw type, timing and number of invitations issued.

After an Express Entry invitation

What happens next depends on whether you receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA), remain in the Express Entry pool, decline an invitation, or experience a change in your circumstances. Review the situations below to understand the next steps.

If you are invited to apply

If you receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA), IRCC will send a message to your account confirming which Express Entry program you have been invited to apply under and what to do next.

Your invitation is valid for 60 days only. You should start completing your permanent residence application and gathering the required supporting documents as soon as possible.

Before submitting your application, review the information in your Express Entry profile and make sure it remains accurate. You must continue to meet the requirements of the program under which you were invited.

If you're not invited to apply

If you do not receive an invitation, your Express Entry profile can remain in the pool for up to 12 months from the date you submitted it.

If you are not invited within those 12 months, your profile will automatically expire and be removed from the system. If you still meet the eligibility requirements, you can create and submit a new Express Entry profile.

If your current profile has not yet expired, do not create another active profile unless you first withdraw the existing one. A new profile will receive a new Express Entry profile number and Job Seeker validation code.

You can use the Express Entry CRS Calculator to review how different profile factors may affect your score. A higher CRS score does not guarantee an invitation in a future round.

If you decline your invitation to apply

If you decline an ITA, you will be placed back into the Express Entry pool, provided you are still eligible. You can then be considered in future rounds of invitations.

Declining an invitation does not guarantee another ITA. CRS cut-off scores vary between rounds, so you may need to improve your score or update your Express Entry profile.

If you neither submit an application nor decline the invitation within the 60-day period, the invitation will expire and your profile will be removed from the pool. To be considered again, you will need to submit a new profile and qualify for the pool again.

If your personal situation changes

If your circumstances—or those of your spouse or common-law partner—change after you receive an ITA, recalculate your CRS score before submitting your permanent residence application.

Changes that may reduce your score include losing a qualifying job offer, losing a provincial nomination, an expired language test, or receiving lower language scores after retaking a test.

If your recalculated CRS score falls below the cut-off score for the round in which you were invited, IRCC says you should decline the invitation. If you apply anyway, IRCC may refuse your application and may not refund your application fee.

If your work permit expires before you apply

If your work permit expires after you receive an ITA but before you submit your permanent residence application, your CRS score may decrease. For example, this can happen if you received points for a qualifying job offer that depended on the work permit.

If the change causes your CRS score to fall below the cut-off for your invitation round, IRCC says you should decline the ITA. If you apply despite falling below the required cut-off, IRCC states that the application will be refused.

After declining the invitation, you can return to the pool if you remain eligible and should update your Express Entry profile to reflect your current work status.
