What the CRS Cut-Off Means

Candidates in this round needed a CRS score of at least 772 to receive an invitation.

Express Entry candidates who receive a provincial nomination receive 600 additional CRS points. As a result, CRS cut-offs in PNP-specific Express Entry rounds are typically substantially higher than those seen in many other types of invitation rounds.

The 772-point threshold therefore does not represent the underlying CRS score of candidates before their provincial nomination points were added.

Tie-Breaking Rule

IRCC applied a tie-breaking rule of July 15, 2026 at 13:57:33.

If multiple candidates had the minimum CRS score of 772, the invitation cut-off was determined by the date and time they submitted their Express Entry profiles. Candidates who submitted their profiles before the tie-breaking timestamp were ranked ahead of candidates with the same score who submitted later.

Express Entry Draw 448 Analysis

IRCC held Express Entry round #448, targeting candidates who had received a provincial nomination. The minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score was 772.

A comparison with the previous two PNP-specific rounds reveals an important development: IRCC has increased the number of invitations, but the CRS cut-off has also risen significantly.

Comparison With Previous PNP Draws

The October 13 draw issued 19 more invitations than the September 28 round, representing an increase of approximately 2.6%. However, the minimum CRS score increased by 47 points, from 725 to 772.

Compared with the September 14 draw, the latest round issued 176 additional invitations, an increase of approximately 30.6%, while the CRS cut-off rose by 38 points.

Across these three rounds, IRCC issued a combined 2,061 invitations to provincial nominees.

Why Did the CRS Cut-Off Increase?

The increase in the CRS threshold is notable because larger invitation rounds can sometimes result in lower cut-off scores.

However, the relationship between invitation numbers and CRS thresholds is not straightforward.

PNP-specific draws are restricted to eligible candidates with provincial nominations, which provide an additional 600 CRS points.

The minimum scores in these three rounds correspond to the following CRS scores before the nomination points:

  • September 14: 134 points
  • September 28: 125 points
  • October 13: 172 points

These figures illustrate the significant contribution of provincial nomination points to candidates’ overall Express Entry rankings.

The higher October 13 threshold suggests that the eligible PNP candidate pool contained enough higher-ranking candidates to maintain a more competitive cut-off despite the increase in invitations.

However, without detailed information about the CRS distribution of eligible provincial nominees immediately before each round, it is not possible to determine whether the increase resulted primarily from new nominations, changes in candidate scores, or other movements within the pool.

What Does This Mean for Express Entry Candidates?

The latest results reinforce the importance of provincial nomination for candidates seeking permanent residence through Express Entry.

For candidates with relatively low CRS scores, securing an eligible provincial nomination can substantially improve their ranking and prospects of receiving an Invitation to Apply.

At the same time, the increase from 725 to 772 demonstrates that receiving a provincial nomination does not automatically guarantee an invitation in the next PNP-specific draw.

Future CRS thresholds will depend on the number of invitations issued, the composition of the eligible candidate pool, and the ranking of candidates at the time of each round.

The October 13 results therefore indicate stronger competition at the invitation threshold, but they do not, on their own, establish a sustained upward trend in PNP cut-off scores.

After an Express Entry invitation

If you’re not invited to apply

If you do not receive an invitation, your Express Entry profile can remain in the pool for up to 12 months from the date you submitted it.

If you are not invited within those 12 months, your profile will automatically expire and be removed from the system. If you still meet the eligibility requirements, you can create and submit a new Express Entry profile.

If your current profile has not yet expired, do not create another active profile unless you first withdraw the existing one. A new profile will receive a new Express Entry profile number and Job Seeker validation code.

You can use the Express Entry CRS Calculator to review how different profile factors may affect your score. A higher CRS score does not guarantee an invitation in a future round.

If you decline your invitation to apply

If you decline an ITA, you will be placed back into the Express Entry pool, provided you are still eligible. You can then be considered in future rounds of invitations.

Declining an invitation does not guarantee another ITA. CRS cut-off scores vary between rounds, so you may need to improve your score or update your Express Entry profile.

If you neither submit an application nor decline the invitation within the 60-day period, the invitation will expire and your profile will be removed from the pool. To be considered again, you will need to submit a new profile and qualify for the pool again.

If your personal situation changes

If your circumstances—or those of your spouse or common-law partner—change after you receive an ITA, recalculate your CRS score before submitting your permanent residence application.

Changes that may reduce your score include losing a qualifying job offer, losing a provincial nomination, an expired language test, or receiving lower language scores after retaking a test.

If your recalculated CRS score falls below the cut-off score for the round in which you were invited, IRCC says you should decline the invitation. If you apply anyway, IRCC may refuse your application and may not refund your application fee.

If your work permit expires before you apply

If your work permit expires after you receive an ITA but before you submit your permanent residence application, your CRS score may decrease. For example, this can happen if you received points for a qualifying job offer that depended on the work permit.

If the change causes your CRS score to fall below the cut-off for your invitation round, IRCC says you should decline the ITA. If you apply despite falling below the required cut-off, IRCC states that the application will be refused.

After declining the invitation, you can return to the pool if you remain eligible and should update your Express Entry profile to reflect your current work status.
